Gianmarco Caroti - Documentary Photographer

Gianmarco Caroti is a Florence-based documentary photographer whose practice unfolds along two distinct research paths: the impact of human intervention on the environment and the anthropological investigation of communities.

In the environmental strand, he examines transformations of landscapes and ecosystems caused by human activity, documenting through sustained fieldwork the ecological consequences and new territorial configurations. In the anthropological strand, he explores the social, cultural, and identity dynamics that characterize contemporary communities, with particular attention to contexts of change and marginality.

A graduate of the International School of Photography in Florence, his methodology privileges deep engagement over surface documentation. His work has gained recognition through significant exhibitions and publications: he exhibited at Brick Lane Gallery in London with "Photography Now" (Portrait Series) in 2017, while his project "Quarantine Nights" was selected for "Life in the time of coronavirus" at Roma Fotografia in 2020. His documentary project "Quartiere 5," examining Florence's airport controversy, was published in La Repubblica Firenze, Ful Magazine Firenze, and Clickmagazine in 2021, receiving an Honorable Mention at the APA Photography Awards and second prize at Riaperture Fotofestival in Ferrara.

He regularly collaborates with magazines including Ful Magazine Firenze, developing projects that function as critical testimony and invite reflection on environmental and anthropological questions through two distinct documentary perspectives.

My Philosophy

Authenticity

Every shot must tell a truth. I don't seek technical perfection for its own sake, but the authentic emotion that can convey a story.

Respect

Every subject photographed deserves respect and dignity. Documentary photography must be a bridge of understanding, not exploitation.

Immersion

To tell a true story, you must live it. I spend time in the communities I photograph, learning their traditions and earning their trust.
